Position Summary

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies have the potential to transform health care by deriving new and important insights from the vast amount of data generated during the delivery of health care every day. AI technologies are already used in fields that rely on image analysis, such as radiology. However, the regulation of innovative adaptive ML algorithms presents a unique challenge to health care regulatory agencies worldwide to ensure that these innovative tools are safe and effective for use as drug development tools and in clinical decision making. The goal of this internship is to define the current AI ML regulatory landscape globally by compiling current guidance documents, guidance documents under discussion or review and global regulatory trends. The primary focus is in the areas of radiomics and image analysis but may also expand to include other applications of AI ML in health care such as wearable devices and EKG analyses.

Key Responsibilities

• Track draft and final regulatory guidance documents related to digital AI/ML driven diagnostic devices from health authorities globally.
• Identify and list the key points and/or updates in each regulatory guidance document and how the new or draft guidance could impact BMS operations regionally.
• Communicate the key points of the draft or final guidance documents as identified to members of the impacted cross-functional Policy Evaluation and Regulatory Landscape (PEARL) teams.
• Compose, distribute, and maintain meeting minutes of PEARL team meetings capturing discussion points, follow-up action items and responsible persons.
• Pearl assessments beyond AI/ML may be assigned.
• Report progress and discuss findings to the PMDH team bi-weekly.

Qualifications & Experience

• Completion of a minimum of 3 years undergraduate education. BS or MS preferred
• Experience in regulatory affairs related to clinical diagnostics or a healthcare discipline.
• Good communication, presentation and writing skills.
